The coming up of ecological concerns have had a big impact on the development of eco-friendly surfactants. Green surfactants are made to reduce environmental impact by causing little or no harm, as they can be degraded and produced sustainably. In this article, I will discuss the contemporary trends in green surfactant research and development with emphasis on biodegradable surfactants which can help minimize environmental pollution.
It is therefore not surprising that their wetting, washing, softening and surfactants’ presence contributes significantly to improving textile quality and production efficiency. This article attempts to describe the main roles played by surfactants in relation to textile industry. It also highlights the effects of using them on enhancing textile quality and production efficiency.
Surfactants, also known as surface-active agents, are chemicals put into good use in many sectors due to their ability of reducing the surface tension between a liquid and a solid or two liquids. They fall under four major types including anionic, cationic, nonionic and amphoteric surfactants. Some of them have properties that make them relevant for industrial uses like cleaning while others can be used in emulsification and dispersion processes. This article examines these categories as well as their roles in industrial operations.
